GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY
The EMS Field Training Officer is responsible for assisting with the training, mentoring and evaluation of new and existing personnel, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Emergency Medical Services Supervisor.

.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Responds to emergency calls, providing basic and advanced life support treatment to patients, as well as transportation to appropriate medical facility.
- Assists with precepting students enrolled in local programs.
- Assists with the training, mentorship and evaluation of personnel.
- Assists with pre-employment testing and orientation.
- Facilitates learning to ensure employees acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to become a successful employee.
- Serves as a mentor, role model and educational resource for fellow employees.
- Responsible for ensuring employees are performing in accordance with established treatment protocols.
- Functions as a Paramedic.
- Serves as a liaison between the hospital staff and EMS personnel for scheduling transports.
- Performs related tasks and appointed responsibilities as required.


Qualifications:
The following qualifications are the minimum requirements necessary to adequately perform this job. However, an equivalent combination of experience, education and training which provides the necessary knowledge skills and abilities would be acceptable, subject to any legal and/or regulatory requirements.

Education : Graduation from a Paramedic program.

Qualifications :
- Current North Carolina Paramedic, National Registry Preferred.
- Two years experience as a full time Paramedic is desired.
- NCOEMS Level 1 Instructor or Level II instructor preferred.
- Instructor certifications in: BLS, ACLS, PALS/EPC/PEPP, BTLS/PHTLS/ITLS preferred.
- Incident Command System (ICS) training.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The amount of physical effort remains fluid throughout the shift, but many excursions are constant. The fixed demands of the job are lifting, securing, and transporting patients to the unit and hospital. To accomplish task an employee is required to twist, bend, walk, run, kneel, and lift. These functions are often accomplished in adverse weather conditions. In addition, this individual must often deal with obese and/or uncooperative in their actions. The duration and weight is dependent on the situation, but employees should be able to lift 100 lbs. and duration of events often lasting greater than one hour per call.
